Stillness in the City (Part 1)

Stillness in the City (Part 1)

Welcome to our 2-part journal instalment as we spend time to detail the beauty of cities that we've shot in.

In this entry, we hope you discover a certain beauty of stillness amidst commotion with us, as we present our very first outdoor shoot in Singapore for the latest 'Between Seasons' collection.

Cities are rarely associated with stillness. They are often described through movement; crowded streets, rising skylines, and the quiet urgency of everyday life. Yet, within every city there are places where the rhythm softens. These are spaces that exist right on the cusp of the rush of things.

In bustling Singapore, these moments can often appear in unexpected corners.

Wide shot 1: By the red brick wall with light and shadows cast from nearby trees

For our recent outdoor shoot, we spent time in an industrial district in an unassuming corner of the island - it proved to be a place shaped not by design, but by function. Storage yards, ageing brick walls and steel structures quietly form its landscape and the perfect contrasting backdrop for the shoot. At first glance, they may seem purely utilitarian.

But therein lies a quiet, subtle beauty that becomes visible upon closer look at the surroundings.

Wide shot 2: First outdoor shoot location, establishing the industrial landscape

Away from glass towers and polished storefronts in the city centre, despite the apparent messiness of the area, the space feels slower and calmer. The air carries a quiet stillness, broken only occasionally by distant machinery or passing footsteps. It is here where the textures become more visible to the eye.

Wide shot 3: Metal junk yard

Brick walls weathered by time. Metal pipes running along faded concrete. Heavy wooden doors upon which paint has softened under years of exposure to soft sunlight. These surfaces hold a history shaped by everyday work and movement.

Throughout the afternoon, sunlight moved slowly across the structures. What might appear rough in the morning gradually softened as the light shifted. Shadows stretched across the walls as time passed, turning pipes and beams into grey geometrical lines and shapes.

In these moments, the space presents a still-life composition showcasing quiet arrangements of materials and light.

Within this environment, the garments naturally found their place. Oversized jackets made for ease, rested against concrete walls and steel frames. Their silhouettes against the lines of the buildings and the industrial area themselves - composed and architectural in their structure.

Carrying a quiet strength of their own, garments rendered in muted tones of grey, faded brown and soft white, embodying the brand's philosophy of marrying utility with beauty; structured yet understated, and always with beautiful texture.

Against the raw surfaces of the yard, the pieces seemed to instinctively belong. Concrete, steel and fabric elements shared the same palette of muted greys, soft whites and weathered browns, creating a visual harmony that's calm and unforced.

Perhaps the beauty of such places lies precisely in their simplicity. Spaces built purely for function such as industrial areas often reveal the rawest forms of stillness. And in a city like Singapore, known for its constant movement, these quiet corners remind us that calm can exist in the most unexpected places.

Sometimes, it simply waits to be noticed.
